BG Carolinas Inc. (Bulgarian language school "Vasil Aprilov") is a nonprofit public benefit corporation working under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable purposes. The organization has adopted and follows a Racially Nondiscriminatory Policy* and has a Conflict of Interest Policy.
Bulgarian language school "Vasil Aprilov", Charlotte offers lessons in Bulgarian language, history, geography, traditions, customs and crafts. The language of instruction is Bulgarian. The teachers are Bulgarian native speakers, certified and experienced in Bulgaria and/or USA. Students are divided into classes, according mainly to their abilities to speak, understand and write in Bulgarian. The school is an entity of the Bulgarian educational system.
Bulgarian as a second language We offer instruction in Bulgarian as a Second Language for students of all ages. Come on in to learn yourself. We offer customized language classes at all levels. Taught by native speakers, the classes are tailored to your abilities and goals. Groups are small.

Our Mission
“Bulgaria is where we are, where Bulgarian is spoken”-is our motto. We strive to create and foster a meaningful, lifelong connection in our children to their Bulgarian heritage through language, Bulgarian literature, history and geography. The main objective of the school is teaching written and spoken Bulgarian and Bulgarian literature, history and geography as well as introduction to traditions, customs, dances and songs. We want to ignite the enthusiasm and love for learning and Blugaria at the same time. We aspire to provide our children with the tools to advance in a fast paced, global world while promoting and boosting their cultural identity.
Our Goals
Our main goal is to create knowledge and appreciation for our Bulgarian roots in the young generations. We aspire to make our organization the centre of the Bulgarian communities around Charlotte and would like our children to know our language, history and traditions.
The School organizes and participates in a variety of cultural events such as celebrations of Bulgarian national holidays, presentations, festivals, lectures about Bulgaria to the American public, and others. We plan to extend and invite Bulgarian enthusiasts, aspiring writers and book lovers, dance groups, singers and artists.
Who is Vasil Aprilov?
Vasil Evstatiev Aprilov (Bulgarian: Васил Евстатиев Априлов) (21 July 1789 – 2 October 1847) was a Bulgarian educator. He studied in Moscow, graduated from a high school in Braşov and then pursued a medical degree in Vienna. After 1811 he was a merchant in Odessa. He initially participated in the Greek revolutionary movement, but later devoted himself to the Bulgarian Renaissance. He gathered Bulgarian folk songs. In his will he left a large amount of money for building the Aprilovska High School in Gabrovo. This was to be the first Bulgarian secular school using the Bell-Lancaster method. The emergence of this school gave a boost to Bulgarian education and soon other schools were opened all over the Bulgarian-populated regions of the Ottoman empire.
